Reports of Animals Loose July 21

Press Release From: Hollywild Animal Park

Re:  Reports of animals loose last night

Brief Summary: Last night, 7/21/2016, a few storm frightened animals pushed outside two park gates, one being an exterior gate from a private residence on park grounds that opens onto Little Mountain Road. The Hoofstock were discovered there by people driving on Little Mountain Road. The Good Samaritans moved the animals back inside a gated area and closed the gate. By the time staff arrived at the area, after being alerted to a report of loose animals, all they observed and reported was that all animals were accounted for inside park grounds.

We are certainly most thankful for the effort of the Good Samaritans and appreciate their care for our animals.

All Hollywild Animals Accounted For

Hollywild Animal Park has just received a call from News Channel 4 stating that they have had reports from people suggesting that Hollywild animals are loose on Little Mountain Road. I can confirm that all animals in the Hollywild collection are accounted for and are on Park property.
At 10:04 PM, staff received videos and a photo showing black and brown cows that appear to be on Little Mountain Road. None of our staff has seen any of our animals outside Hollywild property. All animals have been accounted for.
1:  Hollywild’s founder (David Meeks) was contacted by a sheriff’s deputy who had  received calls about animals loose on Little Mountain Road. Mr. Meeks was not on park property and immediately contacted those who were.
2: Our assistant director, Mary Lee Rollins, went immediately to the park boundary at Little Mountain Road. She did not see any animals on the roadway or outside the park grounds. She did observe several of the large cattle in an area that is visible from the road, but that is still within park property.
3: Additional staff responded to the call verifying that animals from all areas of the park are accounted for.

News Flash: There’s a Poke Stop at Hollywild Animal Park!

Article by Wendy McCarty

Pokemon Go is HOT right now.  This game attracts users of all ages, and has gained popularity for getting it’s players mobile, outdoors and active.

Don’t understand all the hype?  You’re not alone.  As a non-gamer, here’s a bit of information that I have gathered to try and understand it myself.  “Pokemon began as a Japanese anime television film and evolved into a game produced for the Nintendo Gameboy. The franchise was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995,[4] and is centered on fictional creatures called “Pokémon”, which humans known as Pokémon Trainers catch and train to battle each other for sport.” (source:  Wikipedia)

HOLLYWILD HOLDS CONSERVATION DAY

By Alice Lang

Who says you can’t go home again? For international conservationist Dave Johnson, a recent return to his former workplace, Hollywild Animal Park, was a joyful reunion with his colleagues.

After graduating from college with a degree in wildlife biology, Johnson worked at Hollywild for four years, from 1991 to 1995. Johnson was back at Hollywild, on Saturday, May 21st, to celebrate Hollywild Conservation Day, an event-packed commemoration of Hollywild’s conservation projects.

MEET THE STAFF: HOLLYWILD MOVERS AND SHAKERS

By Alice Lang

An organization is generally more than the sum of its parts. In the case of Hollywild Animal Park, each staff member brings a unique set of skills to the multitude of tasks they do, whether it is holding the paw of an animal as it receives care, building fences in the rain, heat, cold or drought, filling food and water containers, organizing park fundraisers or giving Creature Feature presentations.

Hollywild is Open for Business

Article by Alice Lang

Peach trees are divinely draped in pink blossoms, dogwoods look like ladies dressed in wedding gowns, and another tradition of Spring has sprung: Hollywild Animal Park is open for business!

Animals that have been resting over the winter have awoken and are ready to greet visitors new and old. If you have never visited this unique animal park, now is a good time to come and experience the joy of seeing wild animals in a nature-filled environment.

Babies that were raised together in the nursery are making their debut. These include Wednesday the camel, named by Hollywild’s Facebook friends, Elena the eland, one of the largest species of antelope in the world, Ali the addax, a smaller breed of antelope, and Milky Way and Rose, two Painted Desert sheep.

After walking around the park, go to the amphitheater and watch a Creature Feature show which may include animals as diverse as a baby goat, cockatoo, tarantula and boa constrictor snake. Learn about their interesting features and habits and take the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of these amazing animals.

Bring a picnic lunch or pick up food at the concession stand and enjoy eating “al fresco.”

Top off your visit with a guided Safari Bus Tour and feed musk oxen, emu, zebras and other wild animals in a natural habitat setting.

Hollywild offers many familiar delights as well as new animals being cared for by the recently hired Animal Curator, Nigel Platt.

“We have heard resoundingly that the community wants us here and we are continuing to offer them an amazing resource,” said Executive Director Kim Atchley.

Come out and enjoy a magical day with family and friends!

Hollywild is open in April and May on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended summer hours begin in June. For questions about single or group rates, call (864) 472-2038 or visit the website at www.hollywild.org
